After playing several hours of Genesis , I have this vague desire to play more. I don't totally credit that to anything unique to Genesis , however. The simplified experience is nice in some ways. I didn't use voice chat, and there's obviously no text chat, so other players couldn't be toxic without going out of the way to send PMs, which didn't happen. The connection was surprisingly stable even on wi-fi. It was also nice to play a MOBA without a definitive meta, with beginners who are just there to have fun (and don't have the map awareness to avoid my gan

It’s more than a semantic concern, however. Unlike traditional sports, it’s nearly impossible to tune in to games that you don’t play personally. For instance, I’ve never been into Overwatch , and although I understand how the gameplay works, Overwatch League is completely unenjoyable to watch. You can’t appreciate the level of difficulty that certain moves take to execute unless you’ve attempted them yourself. This rule is almost universally applied across all of esports. Unlike traditional sports, where pure athleticism can be appreciated void of any tactical or technical knowledge, esports requires a higher degree of familiarity. At best, this means that viewership rarely crosses between games. At worst, this means esports isn't viewer-friendly and may never have what it takes to reach wider audien

That might've been where it ended but for another custom map in yet another Blizzard real-time strategy game called Defense of the Ancients . The general idea for Defense of the Ancients (which was soon shorted to just DOTA ) was basically the same as Aeon of Strife , only DOTA utilized Warcraft III 's new hero units to full effect. The map also added purchasing items, expanded hero skills, and various neutral encampments that could be killed in order to gain an economic advantage over the opposite side at the risk of being caught between a belligerent mercenary camp and an ambushing en

Back in the LEC, G2 won the Summer season before moving on to the World Championship. They advanced to the Worlds play-offs, racing past DAMWON Gaming and SKT to reach the Grand Final. Though FunPlus Phoenix took home the Worlds title, G2 Esports had a formidable year. PerkZ was a massive part of G2’s legendary run, in which they stood just one series away from a never-before-done grand slam. He fit into the AD carry role nicely, holding his own against the game’s b

With its campaign, the one thing that could really set it apart, inactive, Genesis has your typical MOBA Guides modes. There's training, a humans vs. AI mode, and 5v5 competitive. There's only one map in the rotation right now, the usual three lane battlefield where you aim to destroy the enemy towers and reach their core. That's not to fault Genesis for having this familiar element. The setup is just typical to MOBAs. In fact, there are some smart things going on in Genesis that address common MOBA probl

_ Counter-Strike _ ’s Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut made a splash in 2019, lighting up scoreboards with a consistent form that rivals the game’s best historic talents. The 19-year-old star debuted with Vitality in late 2018, and immediately turned heads as the newest French star. Following in the footsteps of legendary AWPer Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, ZywOo took over every server he played on . In 2019 alone, ZywOo lifted trophies at cs_summit 4, the ECS Season 7 Finals, and EPICENTER 2019, earning the MVP accolade at each event. Vitality also reached the Grand Finals of ESL One Cologne and DreamHack Masters Malmö, and, despite losses, the teenager was named MVP of both tournaments. ZywOo boasts staggering statistics, having maintained a 1.31 rating for big LAN events in 2019. His consistent performances this year place him among _ Counter-Strike _ ’s very best, and this is only the beginning of his car

Today, few companies are looking to create a new MOBA. Dota2 's player count has been on a slow, steady decline while League of Legends' has mostly plateaued. Riot Games still reports LoL ’s player count as an ever-growing number , one can only assume that’s due to greater international penetration as well as longtime players creating secondary or "smurf" accou

Speaking of champions who shouldn’t be able to compete in the league, there is a whole list of champions whose sole allegiance is to a mysterious realm called "The Void." The Void is essentially nothingness. It is the nightmare realm of the League of Legends unive

Support has always been the least coveted role in League of Legends, but that doesn't mean that they don't fill an important position. While oftentimes support is occupied by an autofilled player, it is still definitely possible to carry games in solo queue playing support, especially with the introduction of P

Many champions call the void home. These champions range from monsters born in The Void such as Rek’Sai to "The Prophet of the Void" Malzahar. Champions who carry the banner of The Void tend to have shadowy moves rooted in darkness and evil. But if the league exists to settle disputes, why welcome champions of this mysterious place of darkn
